R.Y.L.A.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary District 9690

R.Y.L.A. is an all expenses paid, week-long, residential leadership seminar for young people aged 18-25 years.  Participants are selected by their local Rotary Club for their leadership potential.  Applicants are drawn from many areas of the community, including business, tertiary institutions and the trade industries.

Potential awardees possess a desire to develop leadership skills and display concern for the community.  Willingness to be involved in seminar activities is essential.  Applicants also should be motivated and enthusiastic, with an interest in developing new friendships.

The District 9690 R.Y.L.A. seminar is held annually in mid January in the Blue Mountains.  The week comprises a series of presentations and discussions led by a variety of professional speakers and seminar staff.  Outdoor and social activities also provide opportunities for leadership development and enjoyment.

The course is recognised widely by potential employers and community organisations as an outstanding leadership development program.  Participants receive a Rotary Youth Leadership Award Certificate at the conclusion of the seminar.

R.Y.L.A. challenges you to:

  • exchange ideas, opinions and plans with other talented and energetic people in an atmosphere free from pressure and distraction.

  • develop and extend your own abilities and encourage others to do the same.

  • focus on your goals and the means by which to achieve them.

  • participate in a range of activities.

  • improve your ability to communicate with others, including development of public speaking skills.

  • learn how to arrange youth activities and community service programs in your local and business community.

  • realise your potential.
